Craig Wright Blog Disappears With Shady Message

People active in the world of Bitcoin will have noticed how the evidence provided byCraig Wright is rather flimsy at best. Moreover, even though Gavin Andresen validated his claims, there was a lot of miscommunication between the two parties. Gavin’s post was fairly clear and honest, whereas Wright’s post was rather lackluster.

Bitcoin enthusiasts actively pursued the information he had posted and debunked it within less than a few hours. But Craig Wright was not done yet, as he was set to provide “extraordinary evidence” to the world to validate him being Satoshi Nakamoto. In fact, he even mentioned how he would move one Bitcoin belonging to a Nakamoto address to show he controls the private keys.

However, it appears as if Craig Wright has either taken his blog down, or it has been hacked by a third party. When opening the website, users are greeted with a message saying how Wright is “sorry” and “believed he could put the years of anonymity behind him.” Unfortunately, the negative attention seems to have a toll, and he continues:

“When the rumors began, my qualifications and character were attacked. When those allegations were proven false, new allegations have already begun. I know now that I am not strong enough for this. I know that this weakness will cause great damage to those that have supported me, and particularly to Jon Matonis and Gavin Andresen.”

What makes this even weirder is how the text on this web page is an image, rather than something was written. It appears this is a placeholder image cobbled together rather quickly, and it remains to be seen if Craig Wright posted this himself, or if someone hijacked the domain.Either way, this is a very strange turn of events, and it may not be the last we heard of the Satoshi Nakamoto manhunt.

[헤럴드경제] ‘나카모토 사토시’란 가명으로만 알려졌던 비트코인 개발자가 7년 만에 베일을 벗었다. 호주 사업가 겸 컴퓨터 공학자인 크레이그 스티븐 라이트(45)가 비트코인을 개발한 것으로 밝혀졌다.

라이트는 2일(현지시간) 자신이 암호화 가상화폐 비트코인 개발자라고 영국 방송 BBC, 주간지 이코노미스트, 남성지 GQ 등 3개 매체를 통해 신원을 공개했다.

그는 비트코인의 개발자가 맞다는 사실을 보여주려 비트코인 개발자 소유로 알려진 코인을 활용하는 기술적인 증거를 제시했다고 BBC가 보도했다.

비트코인재단 이사인 경제학자 존 마토니스 등 비트코인 주요 관계자들과 핵심개발팀 역시 그의 주장을 확인했다.

비트코인은 발행 기관의 통제 없이 P2P(다자간 파일공유) 기술을 통해 이용자들사이에서 익명으로 거래되는 것이 특징인 온라인 가상 통화다.

2009년 개발 이후 세계적인 관심을 끌면서 유수의 금융회사들이 비트코인과 비트코인의 블록체인 기술(가상거래의 해킹 방지 기술)을 도입하기도 했다.

인기가 절정에 달했던 2013년 가격이 1비트코인 당 1150달러까지 치솟았지만, 2014년 세계최대 거래소인 마운트곡스가 해킹으로 파산절차를 밟으면서 폭락했다.

현재 유통 규모는 1550만비트코인이다. 현재 1비트코인이 약 449달러(약 51만1000원)이므로 총 69억5950만달러(약 7조9247억원) 가치의 비트코인이 돌고 있는 셈이다.

라이트는 이날 언론 앞에서 비트코인 개발 초기에 만들어진 암호화 키를 활용해 디지털 방식으로 메시지에 서명하는 모습을 시연했다. 이 키들은 ‘나카모토 사토시’가 ‘캐낸’ 것으로 알려졌던 비트코인 블록과 직결되는 것이다.

그는 “이것이 (2009년) 첫 번째 비트코인 거래로서 핼 피니에게 10비트코인을 보낼 때 사용됐던 블록”이라고 설명했다.

이름난 암호 해석가인 핼 피니를 비롯한 여러 엔지니어들이 라이트를 도와 비트코인 프로토콜을 만들어냈다고 한다.

라이트는 “나는 그것(비트코인 개발)의 중요한 부분이지만, 다른 사람들도 나를 도왔다”고 덧붙였다.

정체를 밝힌 이유에 대해 그는 앞으로는 ‘나카모토 사토시’의 정체에 관한 추측성 기사가 없으면 한다며 “많은 거짓 이야기가 양산됐고 내가 사랑하는 사람들을 다치게 하고 싶지 않았다”고 설명했다.

라이트는 “나는 일이 하고 싶고 내가 하고 싶은 일을 계속 하기를 원한다”며 “나는 돈도, 명예도 필요 없다. 그저 나를 내버려뒀으면 한다”고 강조했다.

호주 브리즈번 출신인 라이트는 IT 솔루션 업체, 호주 증권거래소 등에서 보안 및 방화벽과 관련한 일을 했고 통계학 석사, 컴퓨터공학 박사, 신학 박사 학위를 받았다.

그는 암호화 화폐, 디지털 범죄 수사, IT 보안 관련 기업들의 임원직을 거쳤고 ‘전략적 사이버공간과 보안과학 센터’(CSCSS)의 부회장을 지낸 IT 보안 전문가로 자리를 잡았다.

그의 홈페이지에 따르면 라이트는 세계 최초 온라인 카지노 설계와 호주증권거래소 보호 시스템 작업을 맡기도 했다.

그는 홈페이지에서 가상화폐 적용과 규제와 관련한 작업을 하고 있다면서 “비트코인과 블록체인은 세상을 더 낫게 바꿀 수 있다”고 밝혔다.
